Penguin Island’s tourism operation is a unique partnership between the state governments Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) and Penguin Island Cruises Pty Ltd trading under the name of Rockingham Penguins (part of the Rockingham Wild Encounters Ecotourism Group).
DEC is responsible for the overall management of Penguin Island and The Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. The school activities which fall under their responsibility include The Penguin Experience Discovery Centre and Penguin Island Waddle.
Penguin Island Cruises Pty Ltd has owned and operated the Penguin Express Ferry Service (which all students will use to access the island) and Queenbeyan, the glass bottom boat used to facilitate the Penguin and Sea Lion Cruise school activity since Dec 5th, 2005.
The vessels operate within the e- class restricted zone of the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park under two Commercial Operations Licenses issued by DEC:
License# HQ68372SI permits the operation of the ferry service.
License# HQ68370SI permits the operation of boat tours.
Rockingham Wild Encounters and its associated companies and are accredited with the National Tourism Accreditation Program which is your peace of mind that we are dedicated to providing a quality service.
